Above & Beyond provide soundtrack to Virgin Galactic’s new Spaceship launch!!

Above & Beyond provide soundtrack to Virgin Galactic's new Spaceship launch!!

When Virgin Galactic were looking for some atmospheric music to herald the launch of their ground-breaking ‘SpaceShipTwo’ this week, they turned to the UK’s biggest DJs, Above & Beyond.

At an event hosted by Richard Branson in the Mojave Desert, the track chosen to accompany the official unveiling of SpaceShipTwo was Above & Beyond’s club anthem ‘Buzz’, which samples Buzz Aldrin’s original moon-landing dialogue. To mark the occasion, guests were also handed a special ‘Galactic Grooves’ USB wristband, featuring a selection of Above & Beyond’s songs.

After the unveiling and naming by governors Richardson and Schwarzenegger, Above & Beyond performed an exclusive DJ set in front of an audience of 800 dignitaries, celebrities and soon-to-be astronauts, plus the assembled global media.

Jono Grant from Above & Beyond said: “We’re big fans of all things space-related and so in terms of dream gigs, this is up there alongside our performance in Rio to 1 million people. We’re now hoping to persuade Richard to let us DJ on the first Virgin Galactic passenger flight into space!”

The launch party also featured the first ever ice bar in the desert, hosted by Absolut and Swedish IceHotel, and all the guests were protected from the desert cold by designer space jackets supplied by PUMA. Finally, to close off the celebrations, all the guests were given the opportunity to view the stunning night skies using specialist telescopes supplied by Ron Dantowitz of the Clay Observatory, whose unique tracking cameras followed SpaceShipOne into space during the epic flights of 2004.

Virgin Galactic is the world’s first consumer space travel operator, with flights costing $200,000. Check www.virgingalactic.com for details.

•6 Diciembre 2009 • Dejar un comentario

In March 2009, the music video for Armin van Buuren’s collaboration with Sharon den Adel, ‘In & Out Of Love’ received the Award for ‘Best Music Video’ at the International Dance Music Awards in Miami. A big feat in Armin van Buuren’s impressive career. What made this extra special, was the amount of views the track received on YouTube. With more than 33 million views, ‘In & Out Of Love’ is the most viewed video all time on the Dutch YouTube, in all categories.

But the rest of this number one DJ’s catalogue of music videos is at least as impressive as this mega-hit. With almost 15 years of music involvement and an ever-growing passion for music that’s been there from childhood, Armin van Buuren built himself a solid discography. ‘Blue Fear’, ‘Shivers’, ‘Yet Another Day’, ‘Serenity’, ‘Sail’ and ‘Never Say Never’, to name a few.

For every Armin fan that wants to have a complete overview of all the Armin van Buuren music videos, ‘Armin van Buuren – The Music Videos’ will provide you with all the videos you need – plus a few extra. New videos have been shot for several of Armin’s classics, putting these timeless tracks in a fresh spotlight. Completing this great giftbox, is a cd with all of the music from the videos. The perfect gift for Christmas, New Year or any other memorable occasion.

Gareth Emery – “The Sound of Garuda”

•24 Noviembre 2009 • Dejar un comentario

What a difference a year makes. 12 months ago Garuda was but a word and a concept in the mind of a DJ/Producer. Now it’s a record label, a club night and a rapidly crystallizing sound in its own right. Much the same can be said of its creator, Gareth Emery. This time last year he was a challenger, No.23 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 chart and starting to put pressure on the established trance hierarchy. This year he’s there, ushered through the door and into the inner sanctum of the world’s Top 10 DJs.

This winter ‘The Sound of Garuda’ compilation will again define and underline Emery’s musical outlook. On both its ‘2009’ & ‘2010’ discs you will instantly get to grips with the sound combinations that have made both he and Garuda such a breath of fresh. The forward-gazing 2010 disc kicks off with man-of-the-moment Ashley Wallbridge’s sound-scaping ‘Harmonies’ and snakes a 80 minute passage through tunes including Wippenberg’s just-promo’d ‘Pong’, Sander van Doorn’s ‘Ninety’ and Marcel Woods & Artento Divini’s super-banger ‘Inside My Time’. You’ll also find previously locked-up-tight exclusives from Pulser (with the meditative, majestic ‘Broken Universe’) and Slovenia’s finest Beltek churning up a slow-burning transcendental storm on ‘Niagara Falls’.

‘The Sound of Garuda’ though is as much about the year still with us, as it is the one to come. In essence a condensed musical retrospective of what has been the greatest year in Emery’s career; it brings together the top 1% of the tracks he used to build states of sweaty synergism on dancefloors around the planet. In a super-fluid mixed manner Super8 & Tab’s ‘Elektra’, Jorn van Deynhoven’s towering reconfiguration of RAM’s ‘RAMsterdam’, A&B’s Club Mix of Oceanlab’s ‘On A Good Day’, Purple Haze’s ‘Bliksem’ and a dozen tracks more besides all lay down direct challenges to the speakers.

Naturally enough both discs are fueled by a fair measure of Emery’s own production output. ‘Metropolis’ & ‘Exposure’ (the first Garuda singles) are both featured on the album, as is his forthcoming Emma Hewitt vocalled track, ’I Will Be The Same’ and his halcyon, lamenting remould of Oceanlab’s ‘Lonely Girl’.

If advanced trance and progressive is on your agenda for November (and beyond), then its time you checked The Sound of Garuda. The 2XCD is out on 20th November 2009.

Pre-order your copy at: http://www.beyourselfshop.com

2009 was a year where the sound of Gareth Emery continued to explode in popularity, thanks to a packed DJ diary and the launch of his new record label and club night Garuda, responsible for numerous chart-topping releases and sold out superclubs. Now he’s rounding off the year with his new compilation, a double-CD mix album, which as the title suggests, is all about the sound of Garuda.

CD1, entitled ‘2010’, is all about the future, an exquisite showcase of records you can expect to be big next year. Packed full of exclusive unreleased material, expect future-anthems for some of the hottest names around, and of course, brand new material from Gareth himself. CD2, entitled ‘2009’, is a retrospective of the biggest Emery tracks of the past year, featuring the best and brightest records from his own sets and the Garuda club nights, and once again include a number of Emery productions. In short, ‘The Sound Of Garuda’ is a stunning journey through some of the classier sounds of trance, and will leave you in absolutely no doubt why the Emery sound became so popular in ’09.

The Sound Of Garuda will be released on the 27th of November but you can already pre-order it here from the 20th of November.

Future Sound of Egypt: Episode 077

TFP Episode 27: Andy Hunter

We’re back with Episode 27, the third show of 2009. This time, it’s a guy who needs little to no introduction around these parts. it’s the Lad from Leicester, the Maestro from Mumbles, Andy Hunter! Download now.

If you’ve been around the Electronic Music scene for any time and you’re a Christian,  then surely you know who the gentleman to the left is.  From movies like The Matrix Reloaded and National Treasureto TV shows like Alias to video games like (one of my personal favorites) Forza Motorsports 2 and Burnout Paradise,  Andy Hunter has certainly put his stamp on current Pop Culture,  and you may not have even known it!

Andy gained attention from Rolling Stone Magazine for his work on his album Exodus,  as well as extensive work in soundtracks for video games and movies.  In fact,  if you’ve played a video game or watched a movie in the past 10 years,  you’ve probably experienced Andy’s work first hand.  Most impressive about Andy,  however,  is his dedication to serving God and being a positive influence.  I’m always happy to see good guys succeed,  which is why I’m pleased to see Andy doing well.  Download this show and see what all the fuss is about.

Tracklist:

1. Andy Hunter “You”
